Artwork

A concerted effort from Ahren and his dad. It's a samurai temple.

In other news, Ahren joined the school's Palaro activity. According to him, he played "tug o war" (he wouldn't believe me that it's tug of war) and basketball. Their team didn't win, but he quickly explained that the other team had a much bigger kid daw (palusot pa).

Still another news, I, sort of, fixed his summer schedule with his other teacher (teacher Teresa). I know Ahren will welcome this as he absolutely loves his sessions with teacher Teresa. Computer-related topics will be incorporated into his lessons this time.

Ebook reading exercise

One of the things I love about ebooks (aside from the fact that I can load up gazillions of materials to my device) is that we can quickly refer to the dictionary if Ahren needs further explanation about a certain word (illustration below).

Books Galore from the Manila International Book Fair

For two consecutive years now, I make it a point to go to this book fair on its first day.

I go crazy over so many book finds (kahit wala as budget, bili pa rin). Last september, I shelled out roughly 7,000 pesos because I always stock up on my son's book requirements.

This september, I hope I can buy more magic school bus dvds, discovery education books and books for primary 2.

No School Day

It's a school holiday so Ahren trooped to his daddy lolo and mommy Lola's house. He spent the day playing and enjoying his free day.

We also dropped by the mall and bought a Hardcourt book for reading (@ booksale).

We finished the day by answering some pages of his Vocabulary & Usage book and reading one story from our new book.

Lesson of the day

Ahren did subtraction with my assistance. He likewise answered the missing initial, middle and ending sounds (phonics). Lastly, I asked him to read the sentences below (he remarkably read most of the words, including the longer ones, with ease. Getting confused with "recycled" "stretched" only)

Sunday:Fun with Play Bricks

We finally opened his play bricks and the little boy hurriedly put up his castle.

Lesson of the day

Notice how he added "samray" (samurai) and put "armor" instead of answering one of the given choices? He has an extreme fascination with samurai warriors and jumped at the chance to describe himself. So cute!

Doing Homework

It was his first time to do a crossword puzzle in line with their lessons in phonics. He got the mechanics right away (across/down).

Welcoming Summer!

A perfect way to say hello to summer via a homemade frozen Popsicle..

Ahren the Observer

Here, he is shown using his magnifying lens to investigate the ultimate small-sized predator...ants. He watched an episode in Nat Geo Wild listing ants as the penultimate defender, he was astounded. How can an ant, which is much much smaller than most animals be a great defender above much bigger animals? He had to investigate daw.

Thank you, Blogger App

Yay! I can finally blog about our activities with ease.

Astronaut Ahren

My son's school recently had a career awareness week wherein they asked the kids to share their dream job (and play dress up too!). Ahren wanted to be a samurai warrior, but I dissuaded him against it. He then wanted to be a President of the Philippines, again I advised him against being a politician (actually I thought, ang simple naman ng costume kung presidente...at most of all, ayoko making Pnoy ang vibe Nya noh!)

Finally, we had a consensus that he would be wearing an astronaut costume. It turned out to be a good decision because he was the only one who dressed up as an astronaut. Many of his classmates came as chefs, doctors, police officers.

The climax of his day was seeing the approving faces of the high school students. He happily recounted that the students were cheering him on as he waved the Philippine flag ( I got a small flag at national bookstore) and gave him high fives along the way (ang dami ding nagpaphoto op sa kanya). As for mommy, the most rewarding is my son's exuberant appreciation of my efforts (plus points na Lang na he was declared "The Best Dressed Little Professional").

Pizza fraction and Copying Exercise

I came home rather late tonight so we didn't have enough time to study anything substantial, I just let Ahren play with his pizza fraction toy.  His dad would order 1/4 pizza and Ahren would deliver the correct pizza size to his customer..it's really playing and learning at the same time.

I also checked Ahren's copying exercise.

Introducing double digit addition

Today, I was able to introduce double-digit addition (without/with regrouping) to my five-year old. He still gets confused with the "carry over" concept, but he managed to complete the worksheet I prepared for him.
